Delaware, the second-smallest state by area, has a concentrated but well-developed healthcare system. ChristianaCare (formerly Christiana Care Health System) is the dominant health system in the state, operating Christiana Hospital in Newark — the state's largest hospital and a Level II Trauma Center — along with Wilmington Hospital and numerous outpatient facilities. Bayhealth Medical Center serves central and southern Delaware from its campuses in Dover and Milford.

Delaware expanded Medicaid in 2014, and the program covers a significant portion of the state's low-income population. The state operates a federally facilitated marketplace for ACA plans. The Delaware Division of Medicaid and Medical Assistance (DMMA) manages the state's Medicaid program, while the Delaware Division of Public Health (DPH) (dhss.delaware.gov/dph) oversees public health programs including cancer screening, immunizations, and chronic disease management.

Delaware has made significant strides in cancer care, partly driven by the Helen F. Graham Cancer Center & Research Institute at ChristianaCare, one of the most comprehensive cancer centers in the Mid-Atlantic region.
