The Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) (ldh.la.gov) oversees public health programs, Medicaid (called Medicaid Louisiana), and healthcare facility licensing.

Louisiana expanded Medicaid in 2016, extending coverage to approximately 500,000 low-income adults.
