The state's largest hospital is Wyoming Medical Center in Casper, a Level II Trauma Center that serves as the primary regional referral hospital for central and eastern Wyoming. Frontier communities rely heavily on Critical Access Hospitals (CAHs) — small rural hospitals designated by the federal government to receive enhanced Medicare reimbursement in exchange for maintaining 24/7 emergency services.
